Winged Lion

My ma bought me a necklace! In fact, it's reminiscent of our trip to Venice. Around every corner and in every front yard there was a lion statue. The locals said it was the symbol of Venice. They mentioned other animal symbols for other Italian cities, but they escape me at the moment. I'm gonna say Milan's was the badger. Neither here nor there.

On this trip I bought a winged lion keychain in St. Mark's Square. Something to this effect:

Upon returning to America, I lost it. Rather, the lion fell of the chain during a night of drunken debauchery. I grieved deeply.  So when my ma brought me home a necklace with a similar lion, I died!

It's a touch reminiscent of the Pirates of the Caribbean coin:

But I love it anyways. Plus there's an "L" on it! That's convenient.

My new necklace:

Thanks ma!

Onward To The O.C.

Hello all! Not sure if I've mentioned it, but I'm going to California! I'm leaving the 29th for Orange County to visit my best friend Keke! She's from the O.C. (Ah! Teenage nostalgia anyone?) but has been living wildly in New York City the past three years. I LOVE LOVE her and cannot wait to see her. Normally I'm terrible at keeping up with friends who move to different towns/cities/states, but I've found that when I really care about the person, it's not so hard after all.

During the past three years, we've seen each other once a year. I visited her in New York; she was a wonderful host. We had a blast! She took me around the city like a local. It is a trip I will never forget. And the next year she flew out to Arizona to catch up with me! She is one of those friends I will have for life. Geez louise, I'm getting misty over here.

I digress. The reason I bring all of this up is #1, I'll be gone for a few days, but I'm lining up posts as we speak. Not to worry. And #2, it's time to pack! I gotta get beachy inspired! Oh man, I'm excited! We're going to be in swimsuits and lay on the beach and drink wine. So here are some pictures of these very things!

Clearly pinks, corals, and reds are speaking to me.

True Blood

True Blood is back! Weee! This show is one of my favorite dramas! At first I thought it was a little melodramatic/soap opera-y, but once you accept that, it's incredibly entertaining. Plus there's hot guys. And they take off their clothes a lot. Ryan Kwanten anyone?

I'm totally gonna go off course for a second, because I found this and it needs to be shared:

What a pretty Victoria's Secret angel he makes! Hah, I bet he's really regretting that photo shoot...
Oh! Also I wanted to show you pictures of him:

And him:

Now, perhaps I'm coming off as vapid or shallow, but I DON'T CARE. They are too good-looking for a small thing like intelligence to matter.

Button Wedding Days

Oh my. This one's really pretty. I love the color scheme. I think I would probably do something similar color-wise. And the bride looks like someone I would be friends with. Plus her dress! I love it when brides forgo the floor length style. I think it shows real individuality among a sea of tiered poofball dresses out there. And yes, that is the technical term for those types of dresses. I'm here to teach.

Here's something lovely to look at:

The Checking of the Self

Guess what guys? I just got cast in another web series! Holla! It's called Self-Checkout. The writer sent me the script last night, and it's really good! I laughed quite a bit, and I'm loving my character. It's about slackers working the night shift at a grocery store and how much they hate their jobs and what they do to stave off boredom. I'm the "leading lady love interest". Sexy time! There's gonna be a lot of boobs flying about.

I'm relieved that my old age is paying off, because for the longest time I would get cast as the best friend/young girl/supporting lady, and now I'm getting cast as leading lady! What a relief. I thought I was permanently in the role of "not vibrant enough to be the main girl in a play or film or short". Perhaps I'm no Barbara, but I do try awfully hard! So I'm happy. The web series is a bit reminiscent of Party Down on Starz. Here's a lil scene from it:

And it's similar to the scenes in The 40-Year-Old Virgin when they're working at the electronics store.

I'm going to be famous yet.

Once it's filmed and I have more information on how ya'll can watch it, I'll let you know. I promise, I PROMISE you will not be kept in the dark.

Basil Watermelon Cooler

With the excess of basil growing in my backyard and the delicious watermelon in my fridge, this seemed like a lovely marriage of flavors. This drink makes me wish I was sitting on a porch in the old South on a rocking chair enjoying the hot night air. Maybe the sound of the neighbor's harmonica is wafting through the air. At sunset. While I'm wearing a loose cotton dress to keep the heat away. Just to paint a little picture. No big deal.

Basil Watermelon Cooler

Ingredients:
2 parts Grey Goose vodka
3 large basil leaves (and a little extra if you want to be fancy and garnish the thing)
1 slice peeled ginger
1-2 chunks of watermelon
1/2 part simple syrup (just boil one part water to one part sugar, let it cool, and you win)
1/2 part fresh lime juice
splish splash of ginger ale

To Assemble:
In a cocktail shaker, muddle the basil leaves with the ginger, 1 watermelon chunk, and the simple syrup. Add ice, vodka, and lime juice. Shake well and strain into a glass filled with ice. Top with a bit o' ginger ale. Garnish as you see fit (just stick the whole watermelon right in there).

I do declare that is the finest drink I done had in a fortnight.

Charming

Here's a little preview of the Modcloth's new stylebook "Everyday Exotic". I found it adorable.

It's My Birthday!

What a fine Monday for a birthday! I wish I had a gift for you all, but in lieu of that, I will give you pretty pictures. These are things that make me happy. I hope you enjoy!
