Do Some Time With The One You Love

Time for a movie review, people! We are ever-expanding our horizons and today is another day in that effort. Yesterday I was feeling a bit under the weather, so it called for an all day lazy movie time. I just wanted to watch a comedy to get me out of my sick funk, and so I stumbled upon "I Love You Phillip Morris" (available instantly on Netflix).

I had no context going into this movie. All I could remember is I saw one preview many years ago, and the only thing I could remember from that was that it was about two gay guys. ThasallIgot. Little did I know, it was the gay man's version of "Catch Me If You Can" (the one with Leo DiCap and Tom Hanks).

Starring in this version, however, was Jim Carrey playing conman Steven Russell and Ewan McGregor as his love, Phillip Morris. It really was quite an interesting true story of a guy who could slip in and out of prison like it was dollar shot night at the corner burlesque bar. Plus, there was a sweet love story as the through line. It was entertaining but had its slow moments where I could doze in my sickened state. So, all in all, really good for a lazy movie choice.

John. Just John.

I mentioned in the last post my obsession with John Mayer. I don't even want to hear it from all of you who says he's a jerk or whatever. In his first major album Room for Squares, he has a song called "My Stupid Mouth", so I guess I just feel for him. He's not unaware that he puts his foot in his mouth sometimes. Furthermore, we can all say or do stupid things, but we don't want to be defined forever by these less than glamorous moments. So, I give him a pass and the benefit of the doubt and I think you should too. Capiche?

Towards the end there I was feeling like an italian momma.

Anyways, the preview of his new album is insane! As in, insanely good. If you preorder the album on iTunes, you get to hear the whole album. I've listened to it no less than 25 times over the past few days. *I did mention I was obsessed at the beginning of this post, right? But I'll wager that you will become obsessed too, because it's JUST THAT GOOD.  Buy it today and enjoy the beautiful melodies and soothing guitar and inspiring lyrics. In the meantime, here is an interview with John talking about his love of guitar and his life over the past few years.

All about the hair

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever done a post about hair before...this will probably make my mother and sister cringe, because it just affirms how little I concern myself with my hair. My sister, for example, will go into a haircut appointment with five pictures showing the style, color, cut, etc that she wants her hair to end up as, while I, on the other hand, go into my appointments with nothing more than a shrug and "just make me look good?". Little things like this make me wonder how in the world we could be related, but then we start listening to John Mayer (who we're both equally obsessed with) and it all becomes clear again.

I'm straying from my point.

All of this was to say that I'm finally doing a hair post! I saw this picture of this cuter-than-ever braided bun, and thought to myself "this is totally doable. i think i will do my hair this way today." So I'm sharing it with you all. Because if it looks simple enough that even I am willing to put the time in and cute enough to warrant my bothering to do so, then it's a winner of a hairstyle.

Hope you think it's as cute as I do! (Although I doubt I'll add the bow. I'm not as girly as all that.)

Let Them Wear Pink!

I don't know about you, but spring makes me want to wear florals and pastels like it's nobody's business. The pastel that's really making me smile lately is PINK. I've been wearing my pink boat shoes all week and I'm not seeing any end in sight. Hopefully you'll enjoy a moment with this blushy, rosey, pretty lady color.

The big brothers you always wanted

If you've never heard of Rookie magazine, it's a magazine done by this girl aimed at teen girls. It gives advice on clothes, boys, friends, and just navigating growing up in the terribly awkward and confusing years that being a teen brings. In that vein, they've created a segment called "Ask a Grown Man" that gives 11-year-olds the chance to ask Jon Hamm if farting is normal. I think it's brilliant and these guys give really sweet answers to these young girls (and me) who are trying to learn just exactly how boys think. Here's John Hamm and BJ Novak:

Met Ball

The Costume Institute Gala at the Met is what dreams are made of. It's the moment when designers pair with their muses and show off their skills to the nth degree. They made these beautiful ladies look even more striking than usual (if it's possible--hellllooo beyonce!). Here's some of my favorite looks of the night. I would die for the Ralph Lauren dress. Oof. Bold. Daring. FASHION. Perfection. I know those are just words that I strung together haphazardly, but it felt right. So enjoy these images like the Fashion Slave you are! #fashiondoesntquit

My Name is...

I like to promote a wide variety of thoughts, interests, and preoccupations on this blog and get ready for another one. BAHHHBRA. Streisand, that is. This lady slays it. SLAYS IT. I always forget how incredible she is until I see her again, and then I'm put into another tailspin of joy, jealousy, and awe over her talent. So listen to her voice and enjoy her crazy fantastic nails.

From the CBS special, My Name is Barbra:
