That's Life

Hells yes for spontaneous dance breaks. Am I the only one that wishes real life was like it is in the musicals?

The City of Los Angeles

Alrighty folks! I'm visiting Los Angeles, California for the next few weeks, and I've been reading Bright Shiny Morning by James Frey--which, by the way, is a total commitment considering it is a book made up of 501 pages of very small font--and it's all about LA. One of the chapters (so far...I'm about 300 pages in) has "tons and tons and tons of fun" facts about Los Angeles. Here's a few of the ones that caught my fancy:

It is illegal to manufacture pickles in the industrial zone of downtown Los Angeles.

The economy of the County of Los Angeles is larger than that of forty-six of the fifty states in the United States of America.

For some reason that, despite extensive scientific research, remains unknown, potato chips weigh more in Los Angeles than in any other part of America.

There is more pornography produced in Los Angeles than in the rest of the world combined.

In 1886, the official slogan of the Los Angeles Travel Bureau was--"Los Angeles is the Chicago of California!"

The average citizen of Los Angeles consumes 250 tacos a year.

Isn't is interesting the things you learn that have no real application in your daily life? Unless you play very specific trivia games. Then, you. are. welcome.

Engagement Session

I've always thought engagement notices can be a bit tricky...you don't want to be too formal (it isn't the wedding day, after all), but you don't want to be too casual either--I can't tell you how many engagement photos I've seen when one or both of the newlyweds are wearing flip flops. I'm sorry. I can't abide by that.

When I saw these engagement pictures, I thought they really got it right. This beautiful couple struck the perfect balance between keeping it special but not giving away the whole farm. I think her dress and jewelry and the scenery and her fiance and the cake (!) are just right...needless to say, there ain't nuthin about these photos I don't like.

Fashion Week Forecast: Day Nine

And we've done it! We've come to the end of the 9-part series on Fashion Week Spring 2012 trends. I'm exhausted! Never again. That was a lot of research, people. The things I do for you...let's do a quick recap and then I shall wash my hands of the whole thing.

Obligatory List of Trends (in no particular order):
1. Black and White: Wear them at the same time. NEXT.
2. Diaphanous: (means see-through) The more skin the better.
3. Flower Prints: Are girly and happy. Probably like you. If I know my target demographic (and I think I do), you're very flowery.
4. Stripes: Boys like them. (I have no scientific basis for this hypothesis.) I'm right.
5. White: This time don't wear black with it. It's a leading lady color.
6. Color Blocking: Put on more than one color at a time. Apparently, it's interesting.
7. Ladylike Silhouettes: Let's accent our killer figures.
8. Yellow and Red: These are more colors you should wear. If you needed/wanted/could not go on with your day without a color suggestion.

AND FINALLY, NUMBER 9, THE MOMENT WE'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR:

FLOWY DRESSES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope the exclamation points showed you how excited I am for this last trend. Because it's a humdinger. I have about 20 dresses to show you. Clearly, editing is hardly something I need to work on. Let's just say you get more options of things to decide you like. It's how I'm rationalizing it anyway...

There was a lot of flowy dress-bottom movement on the runways, and the results were so pretty. Plus, a new trend popping up--well, not new, Rachel wears one in the second season of Friends, but nonetheless--is the see-through mullet dress! Doesn't that sound beautiful? Fashion's mullet. It's peek-a-boo up front and demure in the back! But this only occurs on some of them. Zac Posen made beautiful red-carpet looks without a mullet-y front. I will say, though, that this trend is a nice way to show off your legs while also wearing a floor-length dress...Something to think about. Take a looksey:

Fashion Week Forecast: Day Eight

Colors. Oh man, they're great. And this Fashion Week, Yellow and Red were the cool kids in school. Yellow littered most if not all runways this season. It was bright, peppy, and contributed a happy mood to each show. Some yellows had tinges of green in them (@ Oscar de la Renta and Christian Siriano), while others had more beige undertones (@ Rodarte) while others fell somewhere in the middle (@ Badgley Mischka, Carolina Herrera). Voir toutes les photos! (Je suis désoléJe suis écoutant de la musique française. c'est moi source d'inspiration.)

Red was another show stopper. It was no ruby or brick red, mind. It was a slightly orange-toned red. This Orange-Red was used either in patterns or full-on block color. There wasn't much in between. Either way, it was adorbs. I'm excited to buy a few pieces in this shade, and I think you should be too! It'll be a great addition to your wardrobe in the coming months. Btw, this first Peter Som dress? I die.

Fashion Week Forecast: Day Seven

Ontothenextone. Ontothenextone. On to the next one.

It's time for us to be ladies! This next series of looks is all about shape. Ladylike silhouettes were everywhere this Fashion Week. It was all about accenting the hourglass figure. Pretty necklines, cinching the waist, flaring at the hips--this is the feminine look right now. A lot of these looks were winking at the 60's era of fashion. Notice the longer hemlines? We have Mad Men to thank for that.
