This film, Hysteria, starring Maggie Gyllenhaal describes the invention of the vibrator. Apparently there was a time where doctors would cure women's "hysteria" by giving them a little pleasure downtown.
(I hear it releases endorphins.) Anyhow, the doctors who were giving this treatment realized they had too much work and too few hands for the, ahem, necessary procedures. Hence the invention of the vibrator.
Hysteria looks like a grand old time if you ask me. Here's the trailer:
