I love the Oscars. Sometimes its annoying --see: James Franco texting while hosting-- sometimes wonderful -- see: Adrian Brody kissing Halle Berry-- sometimes its awkward -- see: Jennifer Aniston presenting an Oscar while Angelina sits the front row-- but it's always BEAUTIFUL. The women in their gowns and the men in their tuxes...it's such a beautiful celebration of film for the year.
Now, the Oscar nominations haven't been announced yet, but I'd like to talk about a few of the front-runners for the year, so we can all hop on over to a movie theatre and get filled up on film.
Top Three Picks for Best Picture (in no particular order):
1. The Descendants: It's a film about a dad who suddenly is responsible for his two daughters after his wife has an accident. Two words: George Clooney. From what I hear, girls like him.
Here's a trailer:
2. The Artist: It's a silent film--yes, silent--about the transition from silent films to talkies and the actors' response to that change. It's getting rave reviews.
Here's the trailer:
3. Hugo: Directed by Martin Scorsese, it's about a young boy's adventures after his parents die and he's left to put together the pieces. He meets a girl, they run around, discover themselves. All in all, it looks heartwarming.
Here's a trailer:
I'll be having other editions of OSCAR FEVER in the coming weeks to talk about the Best Actor and Actress nominations. Til then, happy movie-going!
