Carnations and Pearls

There's something about a good wedding cake that make my heart go a-flutter. It makes me think of all the possibilities out there and wonder what's going to be inspiring to me when it's time for me to choose my own cake. For the time being...

Thanks to Ruffled for the cake inspiration!

Jenny Packham strikes again!

Jenny Packham has designed some beautiful bridal dresses for Spring/Summer 2012. I thought I would show them off for her. But honestly, it makes me wonder...why can't you wear wedding dresses on a day other than your wedding? These are just so pretty! I want to wear them to the store. Or brunch. Or a day at the salon.

Engagement Session

I've always thought engagement notices can be a bit tricky...you don't want to be too formal (it isn't the wedding day, after all), but you don't want to be too casual either--I can't tell you how many engagement photos I've seen when one or both of the newlyweds are wearing flip flops. I'm sorry. I can't abide by that.

When I saw these engagement pictures, I thought they really got it right. This beautiful couple struck the perfect balance between keeping it special but not giving away the whole farm. I think her dress and jewelry and the scenery and her fiance and the cake (!) are just right...needless to say, there ain't nuthin about these photos I don't like.

Marriage Performance Art?

May 2011 - 120 Model Tableau Vivant - Skylight One Hanson from Sarah Small's Tableau Vivant on Vimeo.

This is a wedding vow renewal turned nude performance art.... Yup.

Okay, I watched all 26 minutes of this thing, and I still have no idea how I feel about it. It's definitely the oddest thing I've ever seen. So much of it makes absolutely no sense at all. The nakedness. And the singing. And yet there's something really genuine about the whole thing. This would take a lot of bravery, I think. Like, I don't understand how this has anything to do with renewing your love for another person, and yet you can feel the love in the room when they are doing the ceremony. Everyone did seem to be very involved in the couples' happiness. Maybe that's what struck me. The involvement and commitment it took to support someone else's marital commitment. Normally, in ceremonies of any kind, the friends and family sit along with everyone else as bystanders and watch the action. But these people were in it. Like mentally/emotionally/spiritually/physically in it.

I can't imagine being one of these people, having this really outrageous experience, and then putting my clothes back on and leaving the building to walk around like it was just a normal day.

I'm still trying to figure out how I feel about it. I think it's time for some food.

Kid-Friendly

Wedding Time! It's been a while since I've had a wedding up here. Must remedy that immediately.

So for your perusal, here is a lovely happy little wedding. It is totally kid-friendly! Now, I do not have children. But I do have a niece and three nephews and they would LOVE this wedding. In the beginning of this wedding, the happy couple had all the children grab little instruments and noise-makers to have a big party down the aisle instead of the traditional flower girl/ring bearer. Cute! This is a great way to include the youngsters in the big day, especially if you have a lot of children in your family.

Thanks Ruffled!

Aaaaand it just happened...

My mind has been blown. Thanks to the Givenchy Fall 2011 Couture Collection...my wedding dress might just have to be backless. Hadn't considered it before, but I just think that's hella gorgeous. Feast, people, feast your eyes on the beauty!

Summer Picnic Wedding

What a happy Nebraska picnic wedding! If summer is your beat, then this will be right up your alley. It looks warm weathered without seeming stifling. I might just have noticed that because Arizona is in full summer swing and I'm itching for an escape. Neither here nor there.

There are cute little details I want to point out:
1. The watermelon vase! Ah! So picnic-y. I've never seen anything like that used in a wedding before.
2. Look at the picnic baskets lining the aisle! They really stuck with their vision. It seems so happy.
3. I think my favorite thing about this wedding is that the guests got to sit on blankets during the ceremony. What a fun switch from the norm. And I bet it was nice and comfy for the guests!

Thanks to Ruffled for the pictures!

Button Wedding Days

Oh my. This one's really pretty. I love the color scheme. I think I would probably do something similar color-wise. And the bride looks like someone I would be friends with. Plus her dress! I love it when brides forgo the floor length style. I think it shows real individuality among a sea of tiered poofball dresses out there. And yes, that is the technical term for those types of dresses. I'm here to teach.

Here's something lovely to look at:
