Month of Love

I'm sure you've heard by now...Mackelmore and Ryan Lewis are blowing up! These guys are great, and rap almost in the style of spoken word poets--like Steve Connell. So I thought I'd show you the musical version, and the music-less version, both of which are highly powerful in my opinion. I wish Steve's video was higher quality, but when he's speaking, I'm not sure it matters. Hope your heart gets filled with love by these great guys.

Luck Testers

In honor of the weekend--for all of you who don't live in Hollywood and haven't been inundated with it for the past three months, it's the Academy Awards this Sunday-- I'd like to show you some pictures from Life Magazine like I told you I would. This particular series is comprised of photographs of legendary actresses from the 40's, 50's, and 60's just before they hit their big break. You'll see Marilyn, Audrey, Shirley, Julie, Barbra, all the greats. Here's to the ladies!

For those who fall out of trees

I have many people who inspire me in my life. I am fortunate to be surrounded by artists and creators. Creative people are my bread and butter. Because of this, I exist in a very safe place. Everyone is supportive and makes me better than I am. They push me to be braver and take more chances. But I know not everyone is so lucky. This video is for those people, and for all of us to change how we treat each other. Words are not just words.

In Honor of the Day

Lately I've been getting into perusing old photos. It feels different than looking at a photo shoot that's been designed and staged. Pictures of history and real life events are so much more powerful, even if you want to look at them for the fashion choices! The Life Magazine website is a really good resource. It has picture galleries with content ranging from the Civil Rights movement to Nazi parades. Quite the gamut. I'm thinking of even making a little weekly segment of these old photographs, but we'll see how diligent I actually am at it.

For now, enjoy these pictures taken at the first Super Bowl ever held.

Hope your day is full of food and football. Go wild, you crazy kids.

LA Arts Show

Last weekend I had the good fortune to be invited to the LA Arts Show. At this exhibit, which I was told is one of the largest arts exhibits in the country, there was a wide assortment of sculptures and paintings from the modernist, impressionist, and classical schools of thought. I could've spent many days there and not absorbed all of it. There were even paintings there valued at millions of dollars. Picasso and Van Gogh made appearances. At any rate, it was very inspiring and I left feeling very culturally full. I hope you enjoy the few pictures I took when I wasn't staring open-mouthed.
